NCI National Facility
Conditions of Use Policy of the NCI National Facility
USA Export Conditions Under USA export conditions, the NCI National Facility system which exceeds 2000 Composite Theoretical Performance cannot be "accessed either physically or computationally by nationals of Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria". Principal investigators and users nominated by them therefore cannot be a national of one of these countries.
General Conditions of Use Lead Chief Investigators and users nominated by them must agree to abide by the ANU Information Infrastructure and Services Rules, and in addition accept the policies regarding data security and integrity. Also users should be aware that information about the level of activity of their account on the system may be observable by other users and that NCI National Facility staff may monitor the contents of job scripts. It is not permitted to share login accounts or let others know your password for system access.
Resource usage It is a condition of use of the NCI National Facility that users attempt to maintain acceptable resource usage in their production use of the Facility.
All Lead Chief Investigators It is a condition of use for all Lead Chief Investigators that they agree to provide a brief description of their project and annual reports on their work to be published by the NCI. (This is separate to the progress reports supplied with actual applications.)
Acknowledgments It is a condition of use that use of the NCI National Facility be acknowledged in publications. An acceptable form of words would be:
  • For MAS projects:This work was supported by an award under the Merit Allocation Scheme on the NCI National Facility at the ANU.
  • For other projects: This work was supported by the NCI National Facility at the ANU.
Projects with Commercial Support The cost of the NCI National Facility for researchers who are undertaking contracts with commercial clients will be considered on an individual basis. Charges can be expected to be made for any costs associated with the commercial use of licensed software.
External Use The charge for use of the NCI National Facility by organisations external to the NCI is set at $0.15 per processor hour.
Academic Use Academic use of the system is granted via the Merit Allocation Scheme or Shares schemes. The value of the resources for Academic use is set to $0.15 per processor hour.
Network Access Charges Users are expected to access the NCI National Facility via AARNet ("on-net"). Data transfers to or from the facility "on-net" do not incur extra charges. Data transfers to the facility which come in "off-net" incur a charge of about $5.50 per 10**9 bytes. The NCI National Facility reserves the right to charge back excess off-net data traffic as a condition of access to the facilities. The AARNet site has a page which can be used to query the off vs on net status of an IP address.
